Each day I go to my co op I learn something new, gain a new experience which I think to me is beneficial to my learning habits, my brain never shuts off. Today we taught a class as always, I was not too entused with the teacher that brought in her class. The students were very quiet and did not have much to say. Usually the students we get are really excited to be at safety village , come on, I mean who wouldn't , you get to drive cars!! The teacher was just very dry and not entusiastic what so ever. But Cindy and I made the best of it. Usually at the end of a class Cindy will the children out and today she gave me the privaledge of doing this today, which I was so excited to do. It was fun. As usual I did that take down , put the flags away, locked up , shut the stop lights off.

But today was different, at the end of each month Cindy will tally up the number of classes held and the number of students that come through the village each month. It is tedious work but in the end it pays off. These numbers are then used for statistics that are tallied up at the end of the year and are used for the Halton Regional Police Service Website.

tuesday Feb 27

Today at co op Cindy and I taught class together. For the first time in her five years working at the saftey village there were no parent volunteers for the pedestrian safety program. What I did was follow her lead and held out the best we could. I took a lead in guiding the children. Some went off and I helped bring them back and focus their attention onto what they were learning. It was fun and interesting. After class I did the lock up of eveything i.e. putting away the falgs, lokcing up, we then went to the print shop located in the regions department to print off 3000 copies of names tags for the upcoming D.A.R.E graudations. Today was awesome and I love what I do , I know I say it every day but I love it !

p.s. Did you know that police officers are not allowed to write in blue ink? Due to security purposes blue ink does not work therefore EVERYONE involved in policing MUST use black ink ! Cool eh ?!

Monday !! Feb 26

Today at my co op I did a little work in head quaters. But before I did this Bruce, one of the police officers I work with went to a Buddist temple on the weekend. Police officers in the community do this in order to learn and take part in haltons multicultual diversity. It is so incredible to learn from them, I gain alot more knowledge each and everyday.

At around 1:00 pm Cindy sent me over to headquaters. I worked with my old D.A.R.E Officer, Officer Gold who is now Sargeant Gold and works with Crime Stoppers of Halton. They are having an upcoming event where the Police Chief of Halton will be there and what I did was sort out gift bags that will be given out. The other police officers are so friendly and down to earth and I love working with them. Today was different but cool !

Weekly Journal -> week 1

I learned so much over this past week. The appropriate attire is anything , but jeans. I usually wear my uniform pants and a sweater with a polo shirt. Basically what I have done this past week was learn from Cindy Lawrence, almost as if I was her shadow. This week I worked with children , help close the saftey village, go on a few tours of the actual police head quaters , talk with other police which is truly amazing !

Over the past few days I feel more independent , I am able to do things on my own and I am not afraid to take initiative. Being at my placement I can honeslty say I am at home. I love what I do and being a part of the police community is incredible. These many individuals I have met in the past few days have impacted my life already. Cindy encourages me to always have a positive attitude and to always smile. I have witnessed this through her teachings. The students tend to be intriguied and have a higher attention span with a teacher who is enthusiastic about what she does.

I think I did a good job this first week. My first impression of my placement is excellent. I love what I do and I love the people I work with ! To be honest I think all students should take co op, it gives you the experience and you are more able to work with others in the community. The best way to explain how I feel is like being in love , I love what I do and I am always smiling . In the future I will most definately become a police officer and to be honest I cannot wait!

Loving it !!

Honestly, I love my co op each and every day. Like honestly I am in love with it. I absolutely love the people I work with, they honestly make each day worth while and more enjoyable. I love the attitude everyone has, you think them being police officers they would intimidate you but they are only human being! Today taught a class again we had 13 students today , so it was really quite, but the students were well behaved and so police, I was suprised. I was also on my own, took all the flags down and closed the village on my own, it is great becuase I am gaining independance.

Each day is new for me and I gain a more knowledge then the day before. Cindy was talking a little about recruiting to be a police officer and how it is much easier to be hired with experience. I have also gained new freindships with the other police officers. Laurel scared me at first but she is really nice and kind hearted, Bruce is so funny and is always making me laugh. Cindy is amazing she is so kind and I have learned to much from her already. I have learned to always have a smile on , people live off that, and to respect others at all times. She is an individual who I will always look up to.When I come here each day I feel like I am at home, this is my second family. Co op has opened my eyes and heart to my career. If anything I want to become a police officer even more then before!

Peaceee out !!

Third day at Safety village

Today was awesome. As soon as I arrived at the village I went for a tour around Halton Regional Police building , it was amazing to say the least. A few things that I got to see were the shooting range , pretty cool I have to say, took a peek inside communications where all the 911 calls come in and met alot of police officers. I taught classes again and Cindy showed me a few things , like how to take down flags and how to answer phone calls. I also learned some cool aspects of policing I would have never known before. Basically police officers have their uniform, on that unifrom they have lines on the sleeves. This determines a police officers ranking , example sargeant, constable, supervisor. Another thing I learned today were police codes, for any type of problem they use a code, for example 900 is for a homicide, 901 is for an assault. Every day I learn something new that captures my attention. I know I say it every day, but I love my co op!

Second day !!

Today was my second day of my co op. I really liked today, I was not as nervous as I thought I would have been, today I took more initiative then I would have. Basically sorted out some hand outs for the classes, checked class bookings with Cindy Lawrence , my supervisor, who is amazing !! I have learned alot from her. She always has such a great attitude and awesome personality and it contributes to her class teachings, the children really live off that.

I helped out with class today, the children are so cute and incredibly sweet. It is amazing to see the children take lead and do things on there own. I have noticed they really do look up to you. I always have a smile on my face and am willing to take part in class, they learn off of our teachings and our attitudes.

And lastly I talked to Jodi, I hope that is how you spell her name. She is a police officer that works in the office. I decided to ask her a little about my policing career. She recommended I go to school and take part in the community. To be honest the first day I was a little scared of her but she is really nice and I think was just joking with me to get me laughing. Basically it is only the second day and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my co op so much !

First Day

Today was my first day at saftey village. When I arrived there I filled out a few forms stating my consent to the program and rules I had to abide to. After this I procceded to do a little tour of the safety village building , the buildings are so tiny and cute! I felt at home when I walked in, the police officers are really down to earth , they are regular people and are so funny. After meeting everyone I taught a class with Cindy Lawrence, she is a teacher, not a police officer. The children were awesome and oriented in what they were learning about. After teaching the class I headed off to head qauters to be sworn in. Yes, I had to do the whole place the hand over the bible. This basically stated that anything I see or hear must be kept conifdential. Today really enforced what I want to be doing in the future, and I cannot wait.
